Vampire Academy Review Lili T

Heyo it's Lili thanks for reading and hope your quarantine is going well. With the extra time on my hands I decided to start re reading some book series that I own. Most of them I haven't read since 5-7th ish grade so I don't remember much about them. Another thing I've been doing since quarantined is I continued watching shows and just started The Vampire Diaries. Because of this, when I was looking at my old series, I thought which one would be better to read than one about vampires. I just finished the first book of The Vampire Academy series titled Vampire Academy. The book is by Richelle Mead (as well as the rest of the series) and was published in 2007.
The book tells the story of two best friends, Lissa Dragomir a Moroi Princess, and her guardian Rose Hathaway who is a Dhampir. The Moroi are a race of vampires that have been almost entirely wiped out by the Strigoi (an evil race of vampires) except for Lissa. The book is told from the point of view of Rose however, you get a sense of a lot of Lissa's emotions and thought because the two share a very rare magical bond that makes them one. Rose can even see through Lissa's eyes sometimes. The book starts off with Lissa and Rose being taken back to St Vladimir's Academy, the Academy is a high school where vampires train to use their powers and guardians learn how to fight. It is heavily protected so it is considered the safest place for Lissa. However, Rose and Lissa dislike the Academy and Rose is special. She is extremely strong and skilled compared to the rest of the guardians and protectors there are out there. So, the two escaped from the Academy. When they return they are met with a lot of backslash from fellow students (some who they dislike) - typical high school drama am I right. However, despite the Academy being the so called safest place for Lissa and Rose, Rose is always on high alert because something doesn't feel right. Throughout the book, Rose and Lissa learn many new secrets about their lives at the Academy and face many challenges with more to come in the next few books.
Overall I would rate this book a 10/10. You should definitely take a look at it if you like a book on the darker side, full of intense moments and magic. It was very fun to read again while going to Uni since the Academy is a lot like Uni. It is one of the most intense high schools for vampires and Rose describes it as one of the only schools that is like a University and it's on the University campus. Which is why under all the hate she has for that place she still carries a little love.
Anyways, again thanks for reading and try to enjoy the rest of your quarantine!
Nice review! I generally don't like supernatural books because I find them hard to follow, but you make it sound like this plot would be something right in my wheelhouse due to the fact I like books which have a darker tone to them. I will definitely consider looking at this book the next time I can go to a public library!
